Hoffman Neighborhood Association Meeting
June 10, 2008
5:30 pm-7:30pm
Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church
3317 Toledano
Attendance:
Total: 15
Announcements:
Update on Hoffman Extravaganza
:
-There is investment from the Sheriff’s office with 4 tents.
-We have taken care of the park registration.
-The banners are being put up and there is a suggestion that one banner be put on the
backstop of the baseball diamond.
-There are twenty barricades from NOPD.
-The radio station will be here.
-The state rep from the area will be there.
-Chief O’Rielly said he would be there.
-Chairs and tables have been reserved as well as a space walk.
-Anyone that has a table they need to fill out a form for insurance purposes.
-Someone from the DA will be here for contractor fraud.
-There should be about 100 or so snowballs to help combat the heat.
-On the air we expect one member of the association to talk about the group activates
needs. WE need to show the city our solidarity.
Non Profit Status:
It is official that the association has received its EIN number from the state, which is the
first step in official non-profit organization.
In the NORA form there is a RFP that forces potential builders to come talk to the
neighborhood. We want to announce on the radio some of the needs of the community so
developers know what we want.
Contractors are being interviewed to build living spaces on Washington Ave.
Neighborhood Crime Update
-3G is a local gang in the area that controls the drug traffic for the area. They run a drug
drive thru on First Street using the abandoned houses. Those houses need to be boarded
up. If you have issues with drugs in your community you can call 821-2222.
-Murder on Third and Johnson that was drug related.
-Urban Impact works in this area and they have some knowledge of the activities. These
areas must be targeted.
Neighborhood Cleanup
-We want to invest in our community and our property. Our acts should help increase the
value of our neighborhoods.
-Michael Heaney of RALLY will find the owners of neglected properties for example the
Wine colored burgundy house that is falling down.
-The properties that are being sold through NORA and Louisiana Land Trust need to be
cleaned up.
-The Council Representatives are being kept informed about houses that need to be
cleaned up.
-Parks and Parkways called about bringing people from their organization to talk to the
group about what they can do.
General Announcements
-A donated $500 check will be used to buy some of the food items for the Extravaganza.
-Urban Impact is offering free day camp 523 5556 ask for Trey. There is hopes of getting
about 100 kids there. Also there is potential baseball league in Taylor Park.
-Central City Renaissance Alliance: two Day leadership training June 27-28.
-LSU is doing a survey and would like people to help show them around.
-Accidents outside the church meeting place: Galvez and Toledano, this is a concern for
the community.
